C-tactile (CT) afferents: evidence of their function from microneurography studies in humans

چکیده

C-tactile (CT) afferents are low-threshold mechanoreceptors present in the skin of humans and thought to convey positive pleasant aspects touch, due their optimal firing during gentle, caress-like contact. This review explores role function through evidence produced microneurography studies, where it is possible record from single CTs awake, healthy humans. send a relatively delayed signal brain, unmyelinated, slowly conducting axon, highly sensitive small displacements skin, especially dynamic, moving touch. primarily mechanoreceptors, but show some thermal sensitivity, neutral touch (at temperature ?32°C) optimal, warm (?42°C) activates them less, cool (?18°C) produces complex responses.

Optimal delineation of single C-tactile and C-nociceptive afferents in humans by latency slowing

C-mechanoreceptors in humans comprise a population of unmyelinated afferents exhibiting a wide range of mechanical sensitivities. C-mechanoreceptors are putatively divided into those signaling gentle touch (C-tactile afferents, CTs) and nociception (C-mechanosensitive nociceptors, CMs), giving rise to positive and negative affect, respectively. We sought to distinguish, compare, and contrast th...

CT afferents

Do you have a ‘scientific hero’ — if so, who and why? I would mention Max Perutz for his influence on my career shift from medicine toward molecular biology. Reading about his work at the time revealed my genuine interest toward biology. Perutz was a brilliant scientist, a founding member of modern molecular biology in Europe and a great mentor who knew how to inspire young scientists toward pu...

Encoding of object curvature by tactile afferents from human fingers.

Isolated responses were recorded from fibers in the median nerves of human subjects by using microneurography. Mechanoreceptive afferent fibers with receptive fields on the fingerpads were selected. The fingers were immobilized and spherical stimuli were applied passively to the receptive field with a contact force of 40-, 60-, or 80-g weight. The radii of the spheres were 1.92, 2.94, 5.81, or ...
